BACKSTORY
Tim Brien has been successfully investing in growing private companies for over thirty years - originally on behalf of the Disney family, then for the investment arms of CS First Boston and Bear Stearns before founding Cliffside Capital in 2001.

You should know that I will recognize and respect the value of your legacy. I won't fire your employees or make changes to your successful business. I've never inserted myself in a company's operations or even changed a company name or sign.
Your business is in good hands. I have grown every business I have invested in. I have never defaulted on a payment or a loan. In thirty years, none of my portfolio companies have declared bankruptcy.
You are welcome to stick around. I value your knowledge and relationships. One gentlemen I purchased a business from stayed employed at the company for eight years before he decided on his second retirement.
I keep my word. I have never been sued by someone I've purchased a business from. I have excellent relationships with my seller partners. You are welcome to ask them.

You should know that I will treat you as a partner. You will have an ownership stake and my full support.
I believe that finding excellent businesses and managers is difficult. I am very comfortable owning businesses for the very long term. In most of my investments, I leave the timing of selling the businesses up to the CEOs.
I trust your judgment. You are the expert and are free to make the operating decisions. I am happy to assist you in any way I can. I view our partnership as an opportunity for us to learn from each other.
